Antonio Conte has hinted that he may use the same formation with three defenders at the back for the upcoming game against Leicester City.

Chelsea recently had to be without captain John Terry for almost a month and their form has not been good during this period. Terry has not played since the 2-2 draw with Swansea City back at the start of September. The poor run of form forced Conte into adopting a formation that he has favoured at all of his previous clubs – 3-4-3. The Italian has achieved a lot of success with this formation and it was surprising to see him go with a regular back for in the initial few months at Chelsea.

After the switch to a back three, Chelsea’s performances have improved dramatically. The presence of David Luiz allows Chelsea to play with three defenders at the back. Branislav Ivanovic has not featured much in the Chelsea team owing to poor form. Conte does not want to change a winning formation even though Terry is available once again. The current situation could be an important moment in Terry’s future at Chelsea. There are suggestions that Chelsea are ready to offer him another one-year contract but with very little guarantees about regular first-team football.

“It's important for me to see, every day, the shape. To see every day every situation and then to take the best decision. Now, I have four central defenders and I have to take the decision for three. I try to take the best decision and see the whole situation. One must go on the bench.I love the players who show always a good spirit. I prefer if they also have an England spirit, because it's very strong,” said Conte ahead of the game with Leicester. Chelsea recently managed to end a sequence of poor league results with a win against Hull City.
