John Terry has said that the players of Chelsea must make sure that the team will qualify for the Champions League of next season.

Chelsea was the winner of the Champions League in the last season. So, it qualified for the Champions League 2012-13 automatically despite finishing at no. 6 in the Premier League points table in the last season.

But, Chelsea’s performance in the Champions League in this season was quite disappointing. The Blues were knocked out of the tournament from the group stages. So, their qualification for the Champions League in the next season is not guaranteed. They need to finish within top 4 in the ongoing Premier League to qualify for the Champions League.

When asked about the targets of his team in the remaining part of the season, Terry said, “We want to win the Premier league, but, if we won’t manage to do it, we must ensure that we will finish in top 4 so that we can qualify for the Champions League. Qualification for Champions League is must.”

Terry recently started a match for Chelsea against Brentford. That was his first start after his comeback from the knee injury. That match ended in a draw.

When asked about his fitness and the performance of the team in that match, Terry said, “From personal point of view, it was nice to get a starting chance after a while. But, from team’s point of view, we would have loved to have a win rather than a draw. So, I am a bit disappointed with the end result.”

“I think we didn’t apply ourselves that much. If we had played up to our potential, we would have won that match for sure.”

Chelsea’s next match will be a Premier League encounter against Wigan Athletic at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.
