VILLA CONFIDENT OF SUCCESS

Speaking to sponsors, the former Manchester City graduate insisted that the club have learned their lessons from their previous campaign, and he is hoping that the Villains are up there in the qualifying spots when it matters.

He said: “It’s been a very tough pre-season, the manager didn’t arrive in time to get the team he wanted here. Now he has had six weeks to get us together. It was a strange season last season on the back of relegation and we were expected to go up, and it didn’t happen. This season, everyone is feeling very confident. We need some momentum early doors, the squad is good enough and we should be there or thereabouts.”

Whilst Richards claims that the club should have been fighting for top-flight promotion last season, a lot of pundits predicted that Steve Bruce’s side could struggle in the Championship itself, and a 13th place finish could be considered decent following their early struggles in the division. The latest sports betting and odds at Netbet suggests that the pundits believe they can make a sustained bid for the title and promotion this time around.

Bruce has brought in John Terry to tighten up his backline, but the former Chelsea star could find the Championship as a challenge as several ex-Premier League players have found out in the latter stages of his career. The 36-year-old did not get much of a run in the Blues line-up last term, and he is up to show that he can bag success whilst dropping down a division.

Aston Villa opened their Championship account for the season with a 1-1 draw against Hull City, and the Villains succumbed to their second straight Championship defeat on Tuesday, and this sees them occupying the drop zone in the early stages of the campaign.

Villa’s recent run has led to question marks over whether Steve Bruce is the right man for the job. Following Villa’s 2-1 defeat at Reading, Bruce insisted that he is confident of turning it around, though it would take a while with key players out through injury.

Jonathan Kodjia and Ahmed Elmohamady are among a long list of players currently in the treatment room, and Bruce feels that the fans got carried away with the signing of John Terry earlier this summer, he said: “We obviously signed JT, people have got carried away with the euphoria of it all. We are where we are and I’m convinced I’m the right one to turn it round. There’s still obviously a load of work to be done but judge us when all the players are fit and ready and at the minute we are having a tough time. We’ve had a tough start – Newcastle had a tough start last year – we have to batton down the hatches, still believe in what we are doing and get that win which will obviously give everyone a lift.”

Terry had been a key influence during Aston Villa’s pre-season where they kept a string of clean sheets, but the new Championship season has not provided much fruit for the Chelsea legend, who has looked powerless in the Villa backline. Just a year ago, Aston Villa were tipped to drop down to League One, and Bruce will seek to pick the club up in the coming weeks in order to negate further talks about their position.

AZPILICUETA SIGNS NEW CHELSEA DEAL

Chelsea defender Cesar Azpilicueta has signed a new three-year-and-half deal that will keep him at Stamford Bridge till 2020 says the club. The Spaniard joined The Blues from Ligue 1 outfit Marseille in 2012 for a fee of £7 million.

Many had no idea who he was when he arrived England and as at when he signed for the Abrahamovic-owned club, many took him to be nothing more than a “back-up-perfomer” in Chelsea’s defence orchestra.

Many had no idea who he was when he arrived England and as at when he signed for the Abrahamovic-owned club, many took him to be nothing more than a “back-up-perfomer” in Chelsea’s defence orchestra.

Four years on and fans can hardly point out a more professional, dedicated and hardworking player than the former Marseille man. Throughout his stay, many coaches have come and gone and not once have the Spaniard seen himself out of favour – the stats are there for everyone to see – thanks to his astonishing ability in adapting to just about any position he’s asked to play.

He has slowly earned his place in the Chelsea team, and in the CHelsea fans hearts – with many fans on this website saying that watching him play was one of the key reasons for buying tickets to see Chelsea!

Speaking after signing the new deal, the Spaniard said he was “really happy to have signed a new contract. Since I arrived here, my target was to progress as a player and win trophies. This new contract gives me the chance to continue my relationship with the club. That’s what I wanted and obviously I’m really happy here,” he added.

The club’s technical director Michael Emenalo also added that he is “delighted Cesar has chosen to extend his stay.” He also commended Cesar for his “incredible and undiluted commitment to the Chelsea cause. He has proved himself to be an excellent professional and a top player which he shows in every single training session and match,” added the Nigeria born.

Club manager Antonio Conte during Tuesday’s press conference said he was “pleased for him,” adding that: “He’s impressed me a lot with his commitment, his work rate, his ability to play also in different roles. He’s a good professional and I’m pleased for him and above all the club and the fans, a really good player has signed.”

Chelsea face relegation-battling Sunderland on Wednesday night at the Stadium of Light in a match that will see Azpilicueta make his 200th appearance for Chelsea. He’s also started all 15 Premier League matches so far and has been flourishing in Conte’s 3-4-3 formation all thanks to his adaptability once more.

TERRY BACKS MOURINHO TO SUCCEED AT UTD

The England International who has played under the Portuguese tactician across two spells when he was at the helms of affairs at Chelsea tipped the coach to achieve greater success at the club.

Terry won three league titles, an FA Cup and three League Cups under the Special One’s stewardship.

Mourinho is the new boss at Manchester United following the sack of Louis van Gaal by the club as he could not lead the club to the heights the wanted. The Dutchman was sacked despite winning the FA Cup, as he failed to secure UEFA Champions League football for the Red Devils next season. The FA Cup win was the first title since Sir Alex Ferguson resigned in 2013.

Mourinho is tipped to return the club to its glory days, with United returning to being one of the favourites to win the Premier League and the StanJames Premier League odds actually putting them as clear favourites ahead of City.

Terry told Sky Sports News: “It’s fantastic news for Man United. I’m sure the Man United fans and players will be delighted with that. I’ve said many times before, he’s the best manager I’ve worked under and a real delight.

“It’s a shame the way he finished at Chelsea this year but I wish him well because he’s a great manager and a great man as well, he’ll be great for Manchester United I’m sure. I’m sure he’ll settle in well with the likes of Ryan Giggs, hopefully he’ll stay and support him along with the team.”

Terry also mentioned that when he has to play against his former coach, he’d get a great reception. The captain says Chelsea just has to start fighting for the title again and he hopes their new coach would help them.

Terry just signed a one year deal to remain at Stamford Bridge and he hopes he would be able to help the club upturn their 10th place finish in his 22nd year at the club. The 35-year old player says they have to learn from their past mistakes and move on from a disappointing season.

Hiddink Retiring at End of Season

Guus Hiddink has salvaged Chelsea from dropping into the dreadful relegation zone and even though things have been going significantly better for the Premier League club, the Dutch coach has confirmed not only that he will be leaving Chelsea at the end of the season but also that he is retiring when his time in Stamford Bridge reaches it’s completion in only a few months.

Oscar and Obi Mikel have voiced their desire in seeing Guus Hiddink maintaining his managerial position in Chelsea for an extended period of time but unfortunately for them it just won’t be happening as the Dutch manager has other things in mind and he confirmed his decision to retire during his latest press conference.

“I feel fit, I feel fresh and, every morning, I go with a smile. Although we have a difficult time when there’s a loss, I love to go to Cobham, to the training field, so I feel fresh. On the other hand, young people must take over and I must retreat a bit. I will visit Chelsea often next season but I’m not thinking of working elsewhere” Chelsea’s Guus Hiddink said.

Chelsea has an issue that they still haven’t resolved and it’s involving which manager is going to be taking over the hot seat in Stamford Bridge when Guus Hiddink steps down. Antonio Conte and Massimiliano Allegri are a few of the high profile managers that have been linked with the coaching position of the Premier League club but still nothing has been officially confirmed. According to the bookmakers such as StanJames, Antonio Conte is the firm favourite to take over.

Manchester City already settled this problem as it was confirmed that Pep Guardiola will be taking over the team and replace Manuel Pellegrini at the end of the season, this is something that Chelsea needs to do and the sooner they do it, the better.

Terry not sure about City match

The captain of the Blues missed Tuesday evening’s Champions League loss at Paris Saint-Germain after limping out of Saturday’s win against Newcastle with an injury.

Scan reports have revealed that the injury is not very serious but Chelsea concerns that they might lose Terry for up to 4 weeks if they bring him back very soon.

Recently, there were reports that John Terry may move back to his old club West Ham United.

Gary Cahill and Branislav Ivanovic were the centre-back playing in Paris and they are all set to carry on at Stamford Bridge in the 5th round tie of the weekend. Chelsea will be confident of defeating inconsistent Manchester City to carry on their improved run of form that has seen them go domestically undefeated since sacking manager Jose Mourinho, who is believed to be leaving football for a while to become a Brand Ambassador for Pokies Palace.

In the meantime, Thiago Motta, the Paris Saint-Germain defender, has described Blues footballer Diego Costa as a ‘quite crazy’ person only able to distract footballers if they speak to him. This season, the controversial striker has been involved in several bust-ups. He has scored 8 goals in his past 11 matches.

After Mourinho’s exit, he really is relishing his much improved run in the club. However, he did not score against Paris Saint-Germain in Tuesday’s Champions League match.

CHELSEA NET WIN

Chelsea showed yesterday night that Manchester City is not unbeatable at Etihad. The Blues secured a hard fought 1-0 win over the Citizens to completely open the race for the title.

That defeat brought City down to no. 2 in the table. Now, they are levelled with Chelsea as far as the no. of points is concerned. Arsenal has got a couple of points more and they have again become the table toppers.

So, the difference of points between the teams which are positioned at the top three places is almost nothing now. Any of those three can win the crown.

One of Chelsea’s veterans John Terry addressed the press conference after the match against City and joyful expressions were all over his face while he was answering the questions of the reporters.

Terry reckons that his team has sent a very strong message to all its title rivals by getting better of City at the Etihad Stadium.

The 33 years old centre-back said, “City has been amazing this season. So, to put up a performance like this against them and get 3 points, it’s great for us.”

“We have shown that it’s possible to defeat City over here.”

Jose Mourinho, the Chelsea boss, has been criticized quite a lot for some of his tactical moves off late, but, in that game against City, the Portuguese seemed to have got all his tactics right and Terry lauded him for that.

When asked if Mourinho deserves a bit of credit for this win, Terry said, “Yes, he does. He kept the spirits high in the group even after the disappointing result against West Ham United. He is really fantastic.”

The Blues have to play their next league game against Newcastle United at Stamford Bridge on 8th of February.

CLEAN SHEET

Chelsea kept clean sheet against Arsenal and remain two points behind the leaders Liverpool. They were involved in a 0-0 draw with the Arsenal at the Emirates on Monday night. As a result, the top four teams are separated by just two points.

This was an extraordinary defensive performance from Chelsea, as they did not allow Arsenal to create much chances over the course of the match. This performance was necessary for Chelsea given that they have been conceding a lot of goals of late. This has resulted in losses against teams in the lower half of the table like Stoke City.

This performance was necessary for Chelsea given that they have been conceding a lot of goals of late. This has resulted in losses against teams in the lower half of the table like Stoke City.

This clean sheet also means that Chelsea have now conceded just one goal against the likes of Manchester United, Manchester City, and Arsenal. After the match, John Terry said that he is extremely happy with the draw given that it was a difficult encounter. Arsenal could have taken three points late in the match since they had a couple of good opportunities with the chance for Olivier Giroud being the more prominent one. As a result of this dropped points, only four points separate the top five teams. Mourinho has reacted to this title race as the most open he has seen.

Chelsea’s next match will be against Swansea. “Home and away we have still got a lot more to give. We’re quietly happy with where we are at the moment. We are amongst the pack of four or five teams who are looking good at the moment going into Christmas. In the New Year we hope to put a good run together. It’s wide open. It’s exciting. If we can put a good run together of five, 10 games it’s then down to anyone to pull away,” said Terry. This was the first clean sheet for Chelsea in five matches.

NO DOUBTS

John Terry’s future at Chelsea was under major doubt after he play regular football under interim manager Rafa Benitez.

His form was also one of the reasons for the constant omission by the Spaniard, but he has found himself as one of the important players at Chelsea this season. He has attributed this return to form to manager José Mourinho who has came to the club for a second spell. Terry enjoyed a great relationship with Mourinho during the first spell. He became one of the best defenders in the world during this period.

The 32-year-old, however, suffered numerous injury problems last season and was constantly on the sidelines. This did not help his form either. Terry has revealed that he was confident of being an important player for Chelsea since the word spread that Mourinho was going to return the club in the summer. It has indeed been the case because Terry has played in every minute of the Premier league so far. Despite the constant football, Terry is expected to start against Schalke as well. He will be the captain of the Chelsea team, as they attempt to go top of the group E.

Chelsea, though, will be without Ashley Cole, who is still suffering from the rib injury.

“When it was announced that Jose was coming back, from the word go I was excited. With the injuries I had last year, I needed to hit the ground running and come back fit. So I came back a week early for pre-season and made sure I was ready. I tried to impress him from day one. Thankfully, that has worked and I’m in the side and I’m happy with my form. I was out for four or five months, sitting there watching the lads. It was difficult to take,” said Terry.

TERRY HAPPY WITH MOU

Chelsea defender John Terry would have been happy to see the return of José Mourinho to the club, but the latest revelation by the Chelsea manager may not have been such happy news for the Chelsea captain.

Terry spent majority of the last season on the sidelines after his injury problems meant that manager Rafa Benitez did not pick him for most of the league matches. Despite being a first-team regular and huge influence at the club for the last decade, Terry found himself consistently on the bench.

The 32-year-old England defender established himself as one of the best in the world during the regime of José Mourinho, but even the arrival of the Portuguese manager does not look set to guarantee him a first-team spot. Mourinho has conceded that Terry still remains as one of the best defenders in the world, but his multiple injury problems in recent years may taken its toll on the first team place. He has said that it is vital that Terry keeps himself at 100% in order to be sure of a starting spot.

Even his status as the Chelsea captain may not guarantee him a regular starting position. The presence of players like Branislav Ivanovic, Gary Cahill, and David Luiz means that Mourinho has a lot of options in this position.

“He’s not safe, and he knows he’s not safe. The only thing he knows is safe is our friendship, but professionally, nobody’s safe. I know he’s a very good player, but he must prove himself like everyone else. I feel the motivation is there, the pleasure of training and playing is there. His class is there. His position is there. For me, that’s the key point for John,” said Mourinho. He has also said that Lampard may not play all the matches in the coming season.
