Former Chelsea defender Frank Sinclair believes the Blues will struggle to genuinely challenge for the Premier League title unless the likes of Alvaro Morata and Olivier Giroud chip in with the goals. The Belgium international has already excelled in the Blues shirt this term with seven goals across all competitions and six of them have come in the Premier League.
Speaking on Love Sport Radio, Sinclair hailed the strong showing from Hazard but does not feel the Belgian’s contribution is sufficient to spur a title charge. He added that Olivier Giroud is certainly not the striker to provide with 20 plus goals this term and the same goes for Alvaro Morata who has struggled to adapt to the English game.
He said: “When you look at the likes of Man City and Liverpool, “they’ve got a strike force that could possibly score 60 goals between them. Eden Hazard can’t do that on his own“. [Olivier] Giroud ain’t known for scoring 20 goals plus and [Alvaro] Morata is finding it very difficult at the minute. Pedro will possibly chip in with 15 goals if he has a good season and the same with Willian. So my “concerns ain’t with Hazard's“ fitness. He plays a lot of games and he will get his fair share of goals. It’s who else is going to chip in to make them contenders,” he said.
So far, Chelsea have not done much wrong since the Premier League season began and they have already accumulated 17 points from the opening seven games which sees them only behind Manchester City and Liverpool on the standings. As such, Maurizio Sarri may not have any major concerns with the outlook of the team but the likes of Giroud and Morata may need to find their scoring boots sooner rather than later. Both strikers have contributed just one goal between them this season.
