Aston Villa defender John Terry has expressed his frustration after suffered a broken metatarsal in his right foot. The former England international sustained the injury during the 2-1 Championship defeat to Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday.
Following the game, Terry was devastated by the extent of the injury, but he is hopeful that he can make a quick recovery to get back onto the playing field, he said: "I have just had news that I have broken my fifth metatarsal. Devastated is an understatement to how I'm feeling tonight. I will be doing everything I can to get back fit as soon as possible."
The 36-year-old joined the Villains on a free transfer from Chelsea in the summer and has since played every minute of Villa's 16 games in the Championship. He was substituted just 20 minutes into Saturday's outing versus the Owls, where the Villains suffered a double injury blow with Robert Snodgrass aggravating his rib problem.
Meanwhile, Bruce was equally disappointed at losing both Terry and Snodgrass but he is hopeful that the latter will make a quicker recovery, he said: "It doesn't look good for John. It looks like he'll be out for a while. But let's hope the injury is not so bad and that he will be out for six and not 12 weeks. I took a calculated gamble with Snoddy as he wanted to play. But he'd cracked a couple of ribs and you could see he was in discomfort."
The defeat against Wednesday was the Villains' first in their home ground, and this has shown their progress under Bruce this term. The west Midlands side are presently occupying the final playoff spot in sixth with 26 points, and they will fancy their chances of maintaining their position with easier games versus Queens Park Rangers and Sunderland to follow the international break. Bruce's side had multiple injury concerns at the start of the campaign which hampered their form, and the manager will be hoping that they are no more fitness concerns ahead of a busy festive schedule.
