Arsenal legend Paul Merson has said that he has concerns over Jack Grealish despite the fact that he has been the top performer for Aston Villa since their return to the Premier League. The 24-year-old has largely featured on the left side of the attack for the west Midlands outfit but he has had the tendency to drift into different positions.

He has still been successful with seven goals and six assists in the top-flight this season but Merson feels the midfielder should stick to a certain position when he makes the move to an elite club, he told Sky Sports: “I think people look at him at the moment and big clubs are probably thinking 'can I trust Jack Grealish? Has he got a position?'. He keeps on going everywhere for the ball. But I just think that's because he's playing at Aston Villa. If he went to a bigger club and a better club with better players who were on his wavelength I think he would play a position. The way teams play now, I do think he's [best] just behind the centre-forward.”

Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur have been regularly linked with Grealish’s signature over the past few months but the former are understood to have switch their focus to signing a defensive midfielder during the summer. Spurs, on the other hand, have a long-term interest in the midfielder but they are unlikely to make an approach after the financial impact due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The north London side have been hampered by the ongoing crisis similar to many of the other clubs and that should put them off from meeting the £60m price tag for Grealish. Everton have been the other team, who have been credited with an interest but they may have to recoup funds from player sales before making the attempt to land Grealish.
