AZPILICUETA SIGNS NEW CHELSEA DEAL

Chelsea defender Cesar Azpilicueta has signed a new three-year-and-half deal that will keep him at Stamford Bridge till 2020 says the club. The Spaniard joined The Blues from Ligue 1 outfit Marseille in 2012 for a fee of £7 million.

Many had no idea who he was when he arrived England and as at when he signed for the Abrahamovic-owned club, many took him to be nothing more than a “back-up-perfomer” in Chelsea’s defence orchestra.

Chelsea boss Antonio Conte insists that captain John Terry remains an integral part of the team even after switching to the 3-4-3 formation in recent weeks.


The switch to this formation, which has been the default option for Conte throughout his managerial regime, has been a major factor in the club’s superb form over the last five games. Chelsea have been looking like a team possessed and it has pushed the second in the table after struggling earlier in the campaign.

John Terry is 35 years old and he was initially expected to leave Chelsea in the previous season of 2015-16.

The 35 year old Chelseacaptain has been unable to recover from an ankle injury on schedule.


This means until the international break, Terry would not feature in any games for Chelsea.

Chelsea recently had to be without captain John Terry for almost a month and their form has not been good during this period. The poor run of form forced Conte into adopting a formation that he has favoured at all of his previous clubs – 3-4-3. The Italian has achieved a lot of success with this formation and it was surprising to see him go with a regular back for in the initial few months at Chelsea.

Chelsea star Eden Hazard almost went through an entire Premier League campaign without finding the back of the net, as the club endured a difficult 2015-16 campaign.


However, he did not take long to open his account for the 2016-17 season, as he scored from the penalty spot with aplomb in the opening game against West Ham. Even though he did not score from open play, Hazard was at his imperious best with his dazzling runs that made him a nightmare for the opposition. He created numerous openings for his teammates while also try his luck from long range.

John Terry contract Extended

After much talk about an impending exit for Chelsea legend John Terry in the summer, the club decided to extend his stay by offering him a one-year extension at the last moment.

Club legend Ken Shellito, though, believes that it was a wrong decision since Terry does not deserve a new contract at this age.Shellito is one of the oldest Chelsea players still actively following the club. He represented the blues in the 1960s as a defender and he went on to make more than 100 appearances for the club. Back then, Chelsea were not as successful as they are now.

Former England defender John Terry said that he could not sleep after England was eliminated from the Euros.


He said that the defeat was a humiliating one, and he could not forget it. He said that he was so disappointed with the elimination that he could not sleep that night and instead went to the gym.

He posted a picture on Instagram where he was in the gym. He said that he was disappointed for the England players and that the elimination also affected him.

This recently concluded season of the Premier League has been one of the most disastrous one for Chelsea as they had to settle with the 10th spot of the English League which wasn’t enough for them to compete in any European competition for the next season.


The 2015-16 Premier League season has seen Jose Mourinho being sacked and replaced by GuusHiddink. This is just evidence of how disappointing the season of Chelsea has been as they had to make a managerial change in order to rescue the club and there was a point in time when the Premier League club was at risk of being sacked.

Despite this extremely disappointing campaign of Chelsea, John Terry remains happy as he is joyful to see Tottenham Hotspur not being able to lift the Premier League title.
